The Media Technology course provides students with a broad-based programme of study that combines traditional media (such as audio, video and print technologies) with the technologies associated with computer based media (such as digital imaging, animation/simulation, Internet and interactive multimedia).
By the third and final year of the course, students have gained a breadth of experience necessary to enable them to converge media and create innovative mixed media/multimedia works that strive to cross media boundaries incorporating live performance.
The students’ practical experience on this course culminates with the Exhibition and Performance module, which provides them with an opportunity to develop a multimedia presentation for a public audience.
The shows on display have been developed specifically around an agreed theme. This year students are exploring the theme of ‘What if...?’, drawing upon audio, video, digital imaging, multimedia, computer graphics technologies and live performance using a multi-screen format.
Many successful students have gone on to work in a diverse range of fields. Media Technology graduates have obtained jobs with Sony PlayStation, Off the Wall (video and multimedia), Transworld International and a range of website design companies. In recent years we have seen graduates gain jobs in a wide range of prestigious media production/management companies including Framestore, BBC post-production suites, Tiger Red (Exhibition & Events company), CineSite(Europe) and Accenture. Many graduates have gone on to become successful freelance web designers, multimedia producers, scriptwriters or trainers in the IT/media industries. Some students have also progressed onto higher degrees for example, in acoustics, composing for new media, multimedia and computer arts.
