The Music Subject Area of Thames Valley University began life as the London College of Music, founded in 1887. It soon became one of London’s foremost musical establishments, enjoying an international reputation for its eminent specialist teachers. It continues to give outstanding provision for both Performance and Composition. The Subject Area has also embraced new innovations and advances, creating one of the country’s most prestigious and sought-after degrees in Music Technology.
Over the last two decades LCMM has become a thriving centre of media theory and practice. It offers education in such areas as advertising, journalism, photography, television, radio and film, supporting students’ practical experience with a theoretical and critical understanding of their chosen speciality. Our teaching staff combine academic excellence with an in-depth knowledge and familiarity of the media industry. The Department has expanded and diversified to include new media and new technologies, developing a unique range of study programmes.
The Creative Technologies group was founded to meet the needs of the emerging digital technologies and new media industries. It has quickly established a reputation for cutting edge courses run by and involving professionals from the industry. Students may choose from a portfolio which includes digital art, media technology, design for interactive media, multimedia computing and digital animation. With access to industry standard hardware and software, our students develop a unique blend of creative and technical skills. Graduates enter a range of jobs including technologists, digital artists, web designers, programmers and games designers.
